LimitING EDITION CONCEPT

LimitING EDITION CONCEPT

RO

To explain the concept LimitING editions in one sentence we should say that each successive print for a certain photograph shall undergo an increase in price by a given percentage, as compared to the previous series. It results an increase rate in a geometrical progression.

The concept of LIMITING EDITIONS (that is something different than Limited Editions) is a concept meant to establish a price calculation diagram for the photographs, on the one hand stimulating the interest to purchase them, and on the other ensuring that the right price is established, depending upon the demand, in a natural, simple, efficient and transparent manner, without compromising neither the buyer's (i.e. the collector), nor the seller's (i.e. the author/artist) interest.

LIMITING EDITIONS is a concept inspired by nature. This is why it’s strong and viable. It is based on the fundamental and simple principle by which almost all living things grow proportionally, as long as the other elements of the dynamic system they belong to allow them to grow.

Applied to our case, the principle translates as follows:

A certain photography shall be edited in successive series. The price for the initial series is relatively modest. Each successive series shall undergo an increase in price by a given percentage, as compared to the previous series. Hence, there shall be edited as many series as the markets deems fit to pay for said work of art. In this context, the market means all those who express their interest to purchase the work. The price, i.e. the perception of the value thereof, shall be the one to limit the number of works in a series. Thus, some works shall probably not exceed a few series, while other which shall be more successful, shall be edited in numerous series, and their price shall increase exponentially as compared to the initial price.

The prices shall not undergo a linear increase, but they shall be subject of a geometrical progression. This is why, even if the series is not limited in theory, since it is possible to print as many copies as desired, in practice the series is limited by the oscillating price, which in this case translates into the market interest and purchasing power. Even if this limit is relative, since anybody may decide at any time to pay a higher price (by the established percentage of increase), as you can see there is however a practical limit, since at a given time the prices become exorbitant and impossible. The market shall decide when the direct transaction between the author (seller) and the collector (the buyer) shall stop and the “aftermarket” business kicks in, which may continue or not up to the next level, and so on and so forth.

Not only will the series tend to reach a certain limit, but they shall do so at various speeds per each size.

Let’s see the prices which shall be reached starting from the debut prices, considering the following input data:

If for the smallest format (11"x8") the price is 10 times higher than the initial price after approx. 100 sold copies, for the largest format (44"x32") the price shall increase 10 times after only 7 copies.

COMMENTS

- The quotation of all works sold shall become equal to the price of the works in the last series. This series may be the “latest but not last”.
- The LIMITED BY PRICE CONCEPT allows, in time, that the price of each photo should naturally reflect its value as perceived by the market.
- This concept stimulates the active behavior of collectors, who purchase the art work in the initial phase (the first series), and may have the chance to gain a very profitable investment, if they made an inspired choice.
